En virtud de que las propuestas contemporáneas demandan para su realización comúnmente de medios mixtos, para el caso de una muestra colectiva es indispensable la presencia de un organizador que le de coherencia y perfile el objetivo. Es indudable pues, la importancia del papel que puede desempeñar el curador en la presentación de estas modalidades, en la que los objetivos oscilan tanto en la jerarquía de lo procesual, como en la del producto terminado. La función múltiple del curador lo lleva a decidir el tema, los participantes, la presentación del producto final y por supuesto, la columna vertebral del proyecto: el concepto o justificación de lo propuesto. Dado el enorme poder que implican estas atribuciones, esta gran responsabilidad asumida o impuesta, lo coloca en una situación particular, por un lado, si quien sustenta ese poder (avalado por su formación y experiencia), asume con responsabilidad su papel, se logrará con seguridad un producto final coherente y sustancial; si por el contrario, el que se yergue como curador tiene una formación endeble, es decir, una información mediana, una visión aún menor y un enorme afán protagónico resultará de su actitud manipuladora y caprichosa, un producto insustancial y manido.
